“An Evening in Paradise” Time to Kick off the Shoes

May 17, 2009 · Print This Article

Henry KaponoLast Saturday night it was time to kick off the shoes and dance to great island style rock n roll on the front lawn of the Royal Lahaina Resort.

The event was “An Evening in Paradise” to raise funds to benefit programs conducted by local charitable and nonprofit organizations on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian islands.

It was also about strolling down memory lane on the shores of a favorite Hawaiian island whilst listening to 2009 Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Henry Kapono serenade us with melodies he has been singing with his partner Cecilio for the last 35 years. You may recall old time favorites like ‘We are Friends’ or ‘Good times Together’.

C & K (as they are affectionately known) are an island favorite - they are a combination of old time rock & roll, Jimmy Buffett meets Hawaiian music and the best blend of all worlds.

Kapono also played a few tunes off of his solo album “The Wild Hawaiian” - which I must purchase asap!

The Royal Lahaina Resort was looking fine, having just completed a multi-million dollar renovation. It really was a beautiful beachfront venue.

I just gotta wonder about those lucky people who just arrived on Maui to stay at the Royal Lahaina and had no idea the event they were going to enjoy while sitting on their balcony! You may want to visit www.cnk35.com to catch up with C & K.
