Travel Tips for a Fabulous Vacation in the islands of Tahiti
October 19, 2011
Are you planning to run away to a deserted island with your true love? Perhaps a romantic escape to a remote tropical island in the South Pacific? Is Bora Bora or Moorea calling you? Here are a few travel tips to consider while packing your suitcase:
Plan your spending money
Although major credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are available in Papeete, Faa’a airport as well as several locations throughout the islands, its a good idea to have cash on hand.
* The currency used in French Polynesia is the French Pacific Franc (CFP or XPF)
* There are approximately 100 CFP or XPF to one U.S. dollar, although actual rates vary
* Travelers checks, US dollars and credit cards are accepted in tourist areas
* The hotels will also exchange money
Phone calls:
* Phone cards can be purchased at the local post office.
* Phone calls from Tahiti to the US are very expensive, so we advise calling your party and then having them call you back.
* Fax services are also available at the hotels.
* Some cell phone service may be available in Tahiti. Call your provider before departure to check for availability.
Clothing
The islands of Tahiti and French Polynesia are very casual. Pack lightweight, loose-fitting cotton washables. Synthetic fabrics can be too hot and sticky.
* Casual slacks or walking shorts and sport shirts are fine for men at dinner.
* Women wear shorts, skirts or casual slacks during the day and cool dresses at night.
* Bring reef walkers or old sneakers so you don’t cut your feet on the coral.
* Most importantly, be sure to bring a swimsuit, a hat, sunscreen and a backpack for carrying any necessities.
* You may want to pack a light sweater or jacket. You probably won’t use it except maybe on the plane.
Other Important Items to Pack
* Make sure to pack any medications you are taking in your carry on bag. While there are medical facilities, some medicines may not be readily available.
* Pack lots of film since film is more expensive in Tahiti. Each person is allowed to bring 10 rolls through customs.
* You may also want to purchase a disposable underwater camera as the sea life is beautiful. A disposable panorama camera would be fun, too. And make sure to pack an extra battery for your camera or video camera!
* Extra memory cards for digital camera.
* Don’t forget toiletries, sunscreen and insect repellant as these are also expensive to purchase in Tahiti.
* You will want to bring an adapter for any appliances you bring with you. The current is 110 or 220 volts, depending on your location.

Bula Teresa!!!
I want to thank you for helping us with the most amazing honeymoon!!! It was such an amazing experience for both of us. Everything from the scuba diving to the village visit at Qamea Resort was incredible! We wished we had realized before leaving (and in all the emails you may have said I just dont recall) that we could take gifts to the kids in the village.
We ended up getting the nice people at Qamea Resort to buy some candy in town to take with us so it worked out.Vinaka vaka levu!! Phil & Jamie

Who is “See The South Pacific.com?”
May 10, 2010
Aloha and mahalo for visiting my website!
My name is Teresa Nelle, I am a Travel Agent with 20 years of experience and I am passionate about assisting my Clients with their travel requests to exotic and unique destinations. I love to travel and when I work with a Client, I feel like I am planning my own personal holiday - its fun and exciting - then I love to hear about how their trip was when they return!
I am the Owner of Luxury Hideaways which is affiliated with Park Avenue Travel, a Virtuoso Agency. I have lived on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii for 20 years so obviously I am a Hawaii Specialist! I love living here and enjoy sharing my “kama’aiana” knowledge with my Clients! I have traveled extensively thru the South Pacific, having visiting the Fiji Islands 5 times as well as Australia & New Zealand. I have also sent many Clients to the Cook Islands, Samoa and as well as the islands of Tahiti.
HAWAII LESSON: Kama’aina is the Hawaiian language word for long-term resident of the Hawaiian Islands. It derives from the words ‘kama’, meaning ‘child’, and ‘aina’, meaning ‘land’.
The South Pacific is at the top of my list of travel destinations. I hope you enjoy visiting this site and do return to keep up with whats new and happening. Please also visit www.LuxuryHideaways.net. On both sites you will find happy love letters from my past Clients. I also have www.OnlyCruisesTravel.com highlighting small ship cruises around the world.
Luxury Hideaways is rated A+ by Better Business Bureau! (the highest rating available) I am also accredited with the Fiji Visitors Bureau, Hawaii Visitors Bureau, Australia Visitors Bureau as well as the Italian Visitors Bureau.
Last year I spent a month in Europe where I fell in love with the city of
Rome, enjoyed a private walking tour of all things Rome (which I highly recommend), visited the ancient site of Pompeii with a Tour Guide from the Archeological Society of Pompeii as well as cruised the Mediterranean on a Windstar cruises, (which is a small cruise ship company) and visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cinque Terre. Feel free to contact me about European travel as I just sent a family to the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain where they had their own private balconey in the shade!
My life motto is a wonderful saying by Mark Twain:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain
See you in paradise!

Fiji Travel - About The Fiji Islands
April 20, 2010
Fiji, blessed with 333 magnificent islands, some inhabited, most not. It is a land where there is still room to move. Set in the tropical South Pacific, Fiji is surely the essence of a tropical island paradise. White sandy beaches, swaying coconut trees, pristine oceans and waterways and a range of things to do and see that will appeal to the most discerning traveler.
Situated south of the equator, this tropical paradise is easily accessible from Los Angeles, Hawaii, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and Tokyo.
Revel in the 5-star resorts, stroll on glimmering white beaches hand-in-hand at sunset, snorkel, dive, surf or kayak our pristine oceans, whitewater raft our clear and clean waterways, cruise the ocean around our mainland and outer islands, trek our rainforests, backpack the outer islands, visit the welcoming villages and experience sustainable living or immerse yourself in our unique island culture and history.
And then there’s our most precious asset - smiling, generous, relaxed Fijians who greet you and everyone they meet with our famous and welcoming ‘Bula!!’
Fiji Entry Requirements
No shots are necessary to go to Fiji. All visitors to Fiji require a passport. Entry visas are granted on arrival for a stay of four months for nationals of Australia, the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. (Please check with your nearest Fijian Embassy for other countries’ entry requirements. Visas may be extended for up to six months; please contact the Embassy for details. People who wish to work or reside in Fiji must obtain the appropriate visa prior to arrival in Fiji.
Electricity
The electricity in Fiji is 240 volt 50 Hz AC (alternating current). The plug is a 3-prong plug, just like those used in Australia and New Zealand. The resorts usually offer a converter that guests may use, but in high occupancy time periods, it is best to have your own converter with you for cameras or laptops. Converters are available at many department stores in the travel & luggage section.
Fiji Weather Information
Fiji enjoys a tropical climate year-round. You can expect warm temperatures: 75 to 90 degrees with humidity during the day, and 70 to 78 at night. Most resorts are located in areas on the islands where the bures receive cool breezes for most of the year. Fiji is located in the tropics, so there is always the possibility of a rain shower, but normally these showers will last a short while and then move on. Because Fiji is so close to the equator, there is little variation in the seasons, although the “summer” months of December through March are known to have a little more rain and humidity.
Island attire
Life is very casual & laid back in Fiji so pack your bags for fun and sun. Shorts, cotton shirts, sundresses, and bathing suits are all appropriate. Don’t forget sunglasses, a hat and perhaps a cover-up, since Fiji’s sun can be fierce. Some excursions are best tackled in sandals or sports style footwear. Even in our winter (U.S. summer), the climate is tropical, but it’s wise to bring a sweater for the evenings, just in case.
What Else to Bring
You also may want to bring: a camera with extra film, sunblock/sunscreen, a Walkman/personal CD player, reef-walkers or other comfortable shoes for walking along the coral sand beach, spare glasses or contact lenses.
