Bella Roma - Beautiful Rome!

January 20, 2009

Roman ForumI have not had a chance to sit down and write about my recent trip to Italy this last fall. There are so many fantastic memories to share, little hideaways we’ve discovered as well as meeting some incredibly lovely people. Italy rocks! I would like to blog about it on this site - even tho its called See the South Pacific - I am branching out and will be sharing pictures, snippets about the trip.

Bella Roma - Beautiful Rome!

We arrived in Rome via the train yesterday. We are staying at Evas Room, which I highly recommend. Only 175.00 EU for a triple room, including tax & cont. breakfast. Eva’s Rooms is placed in the heart of the Historical Center in Rome as well as the district of high fashion shopping of the Rome. In the immediate proximities of Eva’s Rooms B&B there you can walk to the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Condotti street, the Colosseum and Trastevere. Evas Room staff are very friendly and do speak a little English. We certainly feel safe since we need to pass thru 3 keyed doors to access our room, plus the armed Polizia protecting the street.

Today, Juan, (the Hotel Manager) at Evas Room recommends a hop on/hop off bus tour (take the red bus) to get us acquainted with the city. It’s a double decker bus with individual headphones plugged into a recorded tour with access to 7 languages. You also receive an informative and easy to read map of the city so you are able to track your progress of the tour. There are 12 stops on the tour where you are able to hop on/hop off. The entire tour takes 2 hours and hits all the highlights like the Roman Forum, the Vatican & St. Peters, Trevi Fountain as well as the Coloseum. Your ticket is is 16.00EU and is valid for 24 hours. I would suggest riding the entire circle around Rome, hitting all the highlights, then continue riding and jump off to view the sites/eat lunch, then jump back on to continue the tour. Stay tuned for more info on our fantastic Italian holiday - ciao bella!

Where I live there are rainbows….

December 5, 2008

I’ve just returned to Maui after traveling to the mainland and spending a month in Europe. I’ve been gone for 3 months; that is way too long to be away from my island home. I’ve recently traveled down some incredible roads and waterways, including the San Juan Islands off the coast of N.W. Washington. Absolutely pristine scenery - especially when you have perfect 70 degree weather.

I’ve also just return from traveling around Italy, from exploring the countryside villages to spending a week in Rome. I experienced the Italian train system as well as the friendliest taxi drivers in the world! I will be reliving my travels on my blog but gotta say nothing compares with my favorite island of aloha. Secluded from the rest of the world, the Islands of Hawaii warmly welcomes everyone visiting her shores. With a climate perfect for beach-going, cooled by trade winds and infused with the scent of tropical flowers, Hawaii is America’s vacation paradise and where I am blessed to call home. Stay tuned for my “Italian updates” as well as catching up with life on the island.
