The Auckland region is quite sprawling, and encompasses many different sights and experiences! In no more than 40 minutes from downtown, you can be 400m above sea-level, breathing the clean crisp air of the Waitakere Rainforest, or walking on the black iron-sand beach at Muriwai, to visit the world-famous gannet (sea-bird) colony. If you visit Auckland on a cruise, do aim to take a tour into the Auckland countryside to experience ‘real’ NZ.
