Thank you for assisting with our family cruise to Alaska

March 23, 2012

Note from Travel Gal: As you can see below, quite often my Clients contact me for assistance with their trip in another part of the world after working with me initially for the South Pacific.  They are very happy with my contacts all over the world - of which I can brag due to the fact I am with a fantastic Virtuoso Travel Agency - Park Avenue Travel.  We have an intricate network of associates worldwide.  Contact me at 800 644-6659 or to assist you with your travel plans - where do you want to go?

We had a great time aboard Holland America, though I’m not sure we are “cruise people”.   We had great shore excursions: Zip Line in Ketchikan (very fun, a bear walked under our zipline while on platform), Helicopter ride to Mendenhall glacier for dog sledding, Floatplane sightseeing, Evening whale watching in Juneau (3 things in one day, a lot of fun, good time), and lastly helicopter to Laughton valley to hike then catch train back to Skagway (again a great time).  Holland America was very good.   They have a good process for getting you onto and off of the ship.  They did a great job with the luggage.   We didn’t really like the buffet areas, but it was ok.   We saw a lot of whales (which I loved), but I wish we would have seen more bears.  We really lucked out and had great weather.   We didin’t have any rain until our last day in Anchorage.  Both Ketchikan and Juneau were sunny and warm.   Skagway overcast but no rain.   I want to go back sometime to do a bear excursion.  Someone I worked with did that outside of Seward in early September near the end of the salmon run which brings great bear viewing.   I would love to do that someday.   I have no doubt we will go back, just don’t know that it will be with that type of cruise line (I think we would like something smaller and more adventure, younger set).

Overall, it was great trip.   My daughter enjoyed it too.

Thanks for helping us get everything arranged.   We really appreciate how quickly you responded and helped us get things arranged. I think Dave and I want to either go to Ireland or on an African Safari next year.    It will be our five year anniversary (can you believe how fast time flies?).   We were thinking about going back to Fiji, but then started thinking why not experience something new.  Have you been to Ireland or on a Safari?

Best Regards and thanks for asking!

Blue Mountains National Park High Country Tour

March 18, 2012

When I have Clients cruising in or out of Sydney, Australia, I always suggest spending 4-6 nights in one of my favorite Sydney luxury hideaways as well as organizing a few day tours for them.  We can set up a private car & driver or a small group tour.  For instance, the Blue Mountain National Park is close by and not to be missed. Below is an example of a Full Day - Small Group Tour:

Departing your city hotel this morning, the tour starts in the historical precinct of the Rocks, the birth place of Sydney and Australia. Heading North, we cross the Harbour Bridge and west towards the historical towns of Windsor and Richmond. Some of Sydney’s earliest history can be found in these quaint villages. We enjoy some beautiful, home made morning tea at the foot of the mountains.

Continuing, we cross the Nepean River at the charming village of Yarramundi where we stop to view a myriad of Native Australian Birds in their natural wetland environment. Not far from here we enter the Blue Mountains National Park and view outstanding Aboriginal Rock Art. Hidden in thick bush land, you will be amazed at the detail of artworks that are thousands of years old. Our steep ascent of the mountains continues as we arrive at Hawkesbury Heights for outstanding views over the Sydney basin.

Next it is on to the town of Blackheath, deep in the heart of the Blue Mountains for a traditional Australian Barbecue under the canopy of the Bush. Enjoy world class food and wine in unique surroundings and experience the plethora of wildlife that surrounds us. After lunch we visit the stunning Wentworth Falls for a short walk to explore the area and the view the stunning scenery. Later we drop into a hidden valley where we roam the area, seeking out the many kangaroos that graze in the wild, before returning to Sydney.

Thank You for our vacation to the Kahala Hotel & Resort

March 15, 2012

Aloha Teresa,

The vacation was great and really enjoyed the Kahala Resort.  Send people there because it is a wonderful hotel and location.  Loved being so close to things but far enough away.  They are really trying hard to attract people from Maui and other more popular destinations.  Thank you for setting things up and making it a special vacation for my family.

Brent M.

Note from Travel Gal: The Kahala Resort is the only beachfront resort in Kahala, Oahu’s most prestigious residential area; the resort overlooks both Diamond Head and Koko Head craters yet is just 10 minutes by car or complimentary hotel shuttle to and from Waikiki beach.

Hotel overview: This ledgendary resort is nestled on an exclusive ivory-sand beach, just east of Diamond Head, pampers guests with plantation-era hospitality.  Spectacular vistas, 338 refreshed, spacious rooms and suites with spectacular vistas overlooking the ocean, mountains, or dolphin lagoon. Suites include a Suite Amenity added-value program.

Spa, dolphin lagoonFive stylish restaurants, a world-class spa, leisure facilities, fitness Center, lush tropical gardens and the private lagoon with our own resident dolphins.

What to Expect:  Opened in 1964 and frequented by Hollywood’s elite (Frank Sinatra, Tom Cruise, Michelle Pfeiffer), entertainment notables (Faith Hill, Luciano Pavarotti, Billy Joel), every US president from Nixon to Clinton, and royalty (Queen Elizabeth, Princess Grace, the Dalai Lama), this resort attracts the rich and famous and the discriminating and sophisticated. Ordinary families cavort next to the glitterati. Consistent awards prove this resort is among the world’s best.

Amenity Highlights:For a modest fee, guests (kids, too) can swim and interact with the resort’s most loved residents, the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Emphasizing education, Dolphin Quest scientist/trainers run the program in the 26,000-square-foot salt-water lagoon.  Responding to celebrity requests, the resort built five 550-square-foot spa suites (one for couples) where guests can receive various massages and body treatments in an utterly tranquil, private setting, beginning with a foot-bathing ritual.

The Kahala Hotel & Resorts most recent awards include:

• Condé Nast Traveler Magazine Gold List 2012

Le Meridien Bora Bora - Education and Relaxation!

March 14, 2012

While touring the islands of Tahiti last November, I visited some of the most beautiful and luxurious resorts in the world.  I was very impressed with Le Meridien Bora Bora.

Overlooking Mt. Otemanu, Le Meridien Bora Bora is on its own motu (lagoon island) where guests from around the globe arrive by boat.  Fares (bungalows) are scattered all around the resort in overwater and beachside bungalows so there isn’t a crowded feel at all.

The inner lagoon at Le Meridien Bora Bora is a sanctuary for hawksbill turtles, and has a programme that raises young turtles and eventually releases adults into the wild. The programme operates under the supervision of the Ministry for the Environment. Guests can learn about the turtles, but also have the opportunity to swim among them in their natural habitat, the lagoon.  Guests will also enjoy the many colourful tropical fish that inhabit the same waters.

The resort is a perfect destination for both families as well as romantic couples due to the wide range of activities and spacious feel of this incredible sanctuary.

Tahiti Restaurant Recommendations

March 13, 2012

Here are a few of our favorite restaurant suggestions when you travel to French Polynesia:

Bora Bora:  Maikai, Villa Mahana, Kaina Hut, Bounty

Moorea:  La Villa des Sens, Mahogany, Mayflower, Rudy’s, Te Honu Iti, Les Tipaniers.

Tahiti:  Le Coco’s and Le Lotus (located at Tahiti Intercontinental, the overwater restaurant)

Note: I found the islands of Tahiti are a wonderful combination of the South Pacific and Europe - the best of both worlds!

You are Travel Agent Extrodinaire!

March 11, 2012

Dear Teresa;

Jim and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful vacation you planned for us. We loved Sugar Beach so much. Loved walking the 2 miles of beach every morning, the Farmers Market across the street, the close proximity to Up Country, Wailea beaches, shopping, etc. Even Kihei was great.

Doing the 2nd week in Lahaina was a brilliant call on your part. Lahaina Shores is such an intimate, homey, relaxed yet sophisticated hotel. Love that place! Our room was perfect. But with that view it wouldn’t have mattered much what the room was like.

Thank you for thinking of the whale watch adventure with Hawaii Ocean Rafting. We carry that memory of seeing them so closely with us still. Makes it a little easier to handle the fact that we’re back in 40 degree rain again.

Paddling with the Lahaina Canoe club was great too. Something I never would have done without your suggestion/encouragment. I worked my tail off, but felt truly exhilerated when we were done. If I lived there I would definitely be a member.

All in all it was really a perfect vacation. We feel so relaxed and rejuvenated (re-connected too). I mean that Teresa, with all my heart.

It was exactly what we hoped for and needed. Thank you so very much. You are travel agent extroidinaire!

Aloha, love and kisses,

Jim & Barb S.
